Raku pottery is the most magical-looking technique that I know. I’ve never done it, but from what I understand, it involves painting a special glaze on the pottery piece, removing it from the kiln at a specific temperature, and then shoving it in a box with a bunch of organic material that oxidizes the glaze on the piece, turning it a variety of spectacular, metallic colors.
I’ve been ogling some pieces on Etsy made by some various talented artists for some time, and I finally decided that it was time to commission a piece of my own.
I’ve always been partial to doves—I love everything that they stand for—peace, joy, acceptance, spirituality, creativity . . . Plus they’re pretty. So I convo’d artist Duane Collins, who designed a lovely, lovely pendant just for me. *pic*
He’s got ones like it up on his etsy site now, and they are selling like hotcakes, thankyouverymuch.
Anyways, all his work is beautiful, so you should totally check out his shop.
Sometimes when I have magnificent pieces, I can’t bring myself to work with them because
1) Then they will be gone and
2) I might not make them look as good as they deserve
So I have to wait awhile to let the good ideas float to the top and let the silty, worser ideas filter down to the bottom.
This being the case, I have my dove pendant where I can look at it every day, but I have still not made it into a necklace. Which I really should, because I LOVE IT so much.
